A seaside sanctuary in the heart of Margate, Harbour & Tide brings a splash of joy to seaside living with their thoughtfully curated collection of coastal essentials! This modern beach store truly captures the spirit of life by the sea and has a unique focus on functional, joyful and sustainable products.

We caught up with founder Katy Lassen to learn more about her story, her favourite things about eatsleepdoodle and what makes her shop such a special place. Tell us a bit about your shop!

Harbour & Tide is a neighbourhood beach store in Margate, Kent. After 7 months of pop ups, we opened our doors in March 2023!

I founded Harbour & Tide after a 15-year career in fashion. During the pandemic, I discovered the joys of sea swimming and soon noticed a gap in the market for a store selling good quality outdoor goods! This is why we focus on curated goods for making the most of seaside life; from swimwear to buckets and spades, wearable blankets to homewares.

Since our beginnings in 2022, we are so happy to have gained a loyal customer base of locals, visitors and are so happy to now operate our Harbour & Tide shop online too!

Describe your shop in three words!

Joyful, Functional, Sustainable!

What’s your favourite thing about running a shop?

I love working with so many other small businesses run by women - most of the brands I sell fall into this category and it happened by accident rather than design!

In retail most people want you to succeed and there’s an atmosphere of wanting to raise each other up which is quite different to my experience of the fashion industry.

In between the busy moments, what can we find you doing?

When I get a free moment, you can find me swimming in the sea before chilling on the beach afterwards with a hot cup of tea.

What's your favourite colour and why?

I don’t think I have a favourite colour, it’s too hard to choose! But I love joyful colours and have filled my store with as many as possible!

What’s your favourite eatsleepdoodle product and why?

I am really excited by the new under the sea pillowcase. I think that it’s perfect for our seaside location and it’s great that we’ll have it available at the shop this Christmas.

What do you and your customers love most about eatsleepdoodle?

I think both myself and my customers love that eatsleepdoodle is an eco-conscious brand that also delivers on design and enjoyment. The fact that all eatsleepdoodle products can be washed and enjoyed again and again is an easy selling point for our customers.

If you could make your own colour in gift, what would it be?

If I could develop my own colour in gift, I would absolutely love a beach bag with seaside icons on like buckets and spades, fish and chips etc. It would also be great as a tote bag or as a smaller bag for kids to carry to the beach with them!
